Fall 2013 Favorites

We had our first glimpse of snow yesterday so the cold weather season is definitely upon us! Warm scents, super moisturizing lip and body creams, and dark red nails and lips round out my favorites for fall.

Bath and Body Works Harvest Coffee Candle

I'm a huge sucker for candles and usually have one burning whenever I'm home. Bath and Body Works recently had a 2 for $25 sale on their 3-wick candles, and seeing how regular price for one is $22, I took advantage of the deal and got two of the Harvest Coffee. I cannot begin to describe how good this smells, I've been burning it nonstop since I got it. It's like the best, warmest espresso you've ever smelled, but also somehow like you've been baking Christmas treats all day. I can find candles from Bath and Body Works to be hit-or-miss in the fragrance department, some are lovely and others are way too fake perfume-y, and this is definitely the former.

Dulces En Fuego Whipped! Body Cream

I have mentioned the scrub version of the same scent in a previous post and now that the weather is cooler, I have been absolutely loving the whipped body cream. I originally received a sample of this in a subscription box from the now defunct monthly Glymm boxes and liked it so much I ordered the full size in the body cream and scrub. The only way I can describe the texture of this thick cream is like a whipped cream cheese frosting consistency... but in a good way. The smell is beyond amazing, very warm and lightly spicy. The container describes Dulces en Fuego as "musky bitter chocolate sweetened with vanilla and touches of citrus then positively inflamed with black pepper and nutmeg." It is just soo good and super moisturizing. Dulces en Fuego (which translates to "sweet fire") is available for $11 CDN at Villainess.net.

Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Lip Treatment

With colder air comes dry lips and the need for a really good lip balm. Enter Amore Pacific's Moisture Bound Lip Treatment. This lip treatment is the business. I have had perfectly smooth and hydrated lips since the day I started using it. One of it's claims is that is it supposed to last 8 hours, and I can completely vouch that it has lasted 8 hours for me, through eating and drinking (12+ hours overnight). One thing I have noticed with this is that you definitely need to be exfoliating your lips almost everyday, which is good for them anyway. I just use a wet toothbrush to exfoliate and then apply this. It is comes out as a thick, clear gloss, rather than a balm, so it gives your lips a glossy shine while protecting and hydrating. Unfortunately it is not cheap, but until they bring back my beloved MAC Untinted Lip Conditioner, I'll be sticking with this. Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Lip Treatment can be purchased for $44 CDN at Sephora.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery

Although the lip swatch looks quite bright, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery is a pretty blue-based dark red (almost burgundy), more accurately shown on the arm swatch. It applies like a gloss and dries a velvet-y matte. I found this is best applied with a lip brush for better control. As for staying all day, the liquid lipstick does have good staying power, but definitely needs touch ups throughout the day along the inside portion of the lips and it can be quite drying. Because it is so blue-based it really compliments my blue eyes and has definitely become my go-to red lip color. Fiery can be purchased for $29 CDN at Sephora.

Nails Inc. Gel Effect Polish in Kensington High Street

Nails Inc. Gel Effect Polish in Kensington High Street Swatch

I devoted an entire post to this color (here), so I won't go into too much detail here. The Nails Inc. Gel Effect Polish in Kensington High Street is one of my favorite polishes for fall. I adore dark red/raspberry/burgundy shades and the formulation of this polish is fantastic. I know some people have trouble with the original Nails Inc. polishes in terms of staying power/chipping, but the Gel Effect polishes are phenomenal. Kensington High Street can be purchased for $17 CDN at Sephora.
