Milani Soft & Sultry Eyeshadow Palette | Review & Swatches

Milani soft and sultry eyeshadow palette, neutral, drugstore

When I saw the first campaign pictures for this palette launch on instagram, I immediately commented several heart eyes emojis and knew I had to add it to my collection. Am I as excited about the palette now that I have it? Keep reading... :)

Soft & Sultry is the third and newest 12-pan eyeshadow palette from Milani. It consists of cool neutrals and smoked-out metallics - (almost like their version of the infamous UD Naked palette). Per the box, this palette is "designed with a seductive mix of blendable shadows to be worn alone or together. This palette features 12 pure pigment, velvety mattes paired with intense shimmery metallics for a multitude of one-of-a-kind eye looks." Whew, that's a lot to live up to.

The Packaging
Inside the cardboard box is a shiny gold plastic palette, featuring a giant mirror inside the lid. This alone means I'm going to reaching for this a lot when I'm getting ready on the go, I live for a large mirror. While pretty and luxe feeling, the finish on the front of the palette shows every fingerprint with use. On the back of the palette, they separate the colours (by column) into three different looks: weekday, weekend, and funday (Sunday Fun-day am I right!?)

Eyeshadow
Inside the palette are 8 matte shades and 4 metallic/shimmer shades. The tones range from neutral to cool, which I love because I cannot wear warm tones to save my life. I was really impressed with the colours in the palette. Obviously they're neutrals so they're all super wearable, but there also weren't any noticeable dupes or shades that seemed redundant. This is a really great starter palette if you're looking for something relatively affordable and neutral. Unfortunately, I found the individual colours to be hit or miss in terms of quality. A few of the matte shades are extremely chalky and leave a ton of kick up and fallout. The darker metallics swatched and wore beautifully - so buttery and creamy - I had absolutely no issues. However, the lightest silver shimmer color, "Diamonds & Pearls," was a bit patchy. It didn't bother me a ton as I used it as a topper on other colours, but alone it might be a bit difficult to achieve desired coverage.

Wearing In The Buff, Soft Touch, Smokin' Hot and Foxy Lady.
Look how striking Foxy Lady is in the above photo - so pigmented. My favourites so far are Come-Hither and Tan-Tation - sooo pretty. While I was happy with the look I achieved on the eye with the shadows, the staying power didn't impress me. I wore them for 6 hours and when I came home the mattes had pretty much disappeared completely. I primed my eyes as usual and don't normally have this issue with eyeshadow, so I was a bit disappointed. It should be noted that I did use the lighter colours and mostly mattes, so perhaps the deeper shades will fair better.

Verdict
Would I repurchase? In all honesty, yes. It's not the absolute greatest quality eyeshadow you'll ever experience, but for the price and for someone who really gets off on nudes, it's hard to pass up. I've really enjoyed playing with it thus far. Especially in the wake of the discontinuance of the Urban Decay Naked 1, I think it's a great (and much less expensive) cool-toned alternative.

Availability
I purchased mine at Walmart in the US for $14.97. You can also find it at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada or drugstores, Ulta, Walmart, and Target, etc. in the US.

Will you be picking up this golden baby? Have you tried any of the other 12-pan eyeshadows from Milani?
