Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots Nail Laquer Review & Swatches

Today I have three of the Maybelline Color Show nail lacquers from the new Polka Dots collection, Drops of Jade, Pretty in Polka, and Blue Marks the Spot. I have tried the Color Show lacquers previously from the Denim and the Sequins collections and have found the colors to be nice, although slightly lacking in lasting power and shine. The Polka Dots collection features small- and medium-sized  black and white hexagonal glitter pieces in a jelly color base. All can be worn alone or layered over other colors.

Drops of Jade is definitely my favorite of the three, a muted sea-green color. Drops of Jade and Pretty in Polka applied the same, I needed two coats to achieve nice color and even glitter distribution.

For some reason, Pretty in Polka felt somewhat 'punk' to me, probably the mix of black and hot pink, for this reason, it wasn't my favorite, but still a pretty combination, I could see it looking nice layered over a different shade.

Three coats of Blue Marks the Spot without top coat (above) and with top coat (below)
Blue Marks the Spot was the sheerest of the three I tried and required three coats to even get close to the bottle color. I would have done a fourth coat, but because of the glitter in the polish it would become quite chunky on the nail.

One coat of each
I showed each polish with one coat as well to show how sheer they are originally, although as you can see they can easily be built up. I would definitely recommend using a top coat with these (I used CND's Super Shiney), as they can look fairly flat without one, and this also helps with the staying power. The brush is on the smaller side, but that doesn't negatively impact application. In terms of removal, they removed like a normal polish rather than a glitter one, which is great, but the smaller glitters tend to get stuck everywhere and are annoying to get off. Overall, these are cute polishes that resemble speckled bird eggs more than polka dots.
